Golf Digest's Most Unforgettable New Course
When Adena Golf and Country Club, a new private club community, opened last year in the rolling hills of Ocala, Florida there was no doubt it would capture attention. The course meanders through the dramatic elevation changes of limestone quarries lined with towering moss-draped oaks creating an unforgettable experience for everyone who steps onto the fairways. It’s no wonder Executive Golfer Magazine chose to feature Adena in its February 2016 issue. Here’s an excerpt from the interview with Adena Superintendent Asa High on the high quality standards being implemented at Adena:
“My autonomy and budget allows for enhancements other private clubs miss,” reported Asa High, Superintendent at Adena. “For example, there are three primary maintenance equipment manufacturers. To distinguish their brands, each company has a distinctive color. Toro mowers are red, John Deere is green, and Jacobsen is orange. At Adena, we custom painted the equipment black to be less intrusive to the eye. After mowing the greens, we measure the weight of grass clippings to evaluate grass growth. Sometimes a double cut is necessary.”
